We must fight for Justice in whatever we do, avoid to abuse or to be abused and avoid corruption
From the 25th to 31st March 2017, it is the annual Legal Aid Week. During this week, the Justice Sector institutions undertake various activities including visits to Prisoners and giving advices on inmates’ issues, Legal representation in courts for vulnerable people, execution of Gacaca cases relating to property destroyed during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, Legal education to Citizens and handling people’s justice related complains in their villages.
It is in this regards that on March 28th 2017, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice Mrs. Kalihangabo Isabelle visited citizens of Bwishyura Sector in Karongi District, Western Province where she explained them the importance of Legal Aid Week and urged them to fight for Justice as it is their rights. “We must fight for Justice in whatever we do, avoid to abuse or to be abused and avoid corruption” Mrs. Isabelle added.
Mrs. Kalihangabo requested Karongi citizens to respect courts’ decisions and explained them the effects of not respecting Courts’ decisions when the Bailiff intervenes. “I urge you to execute Courts’ decisions peacefully otherwise it will cost you too much and you may be penalized because laws provide for punishments for those who do not obey Courts’ decisions peacefully”.
Concerning judgment execution of Gacaca cases, Mrs. Kalihangabo requested citizens to speed up the process. “We should not be among those who do not value Gacaca Courts achievements; we should not undermine what we have achieved in unity and reconciliation. That is why I urge you to speed up judgment execution for Gacaca cases”. Mrs. Kalihangabo emphasized.
