A Consultative meeting with CSOs on Accountable Democratic Governance Program
On Wednesday 20, June 2018, the Ministry of Justice held a consultative meeting with all relevant stakeholders involved in Justice Sector on Accountable Democratic Governance Program funded by European Union at Lemigo Hotel. This meeting which was opened by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston, aimed at sharing activities of that program to all stakeholders and associating them to its monitoring and evaluation process from its starting point.
While talking with media, Minister Busingye said that the project will enhance access to justice by building capacity of the Ombudsman office to reach ordinary citizens in the villages. “Access to justice is a citizens’ right and that is why more outreach activities are needed to approach citizens at village level.” He said
The Justice Sector is on an ambitious journey of always reinforcing justice service delivery at the local level and strengthening the services of the Office of the Ombudsman to the Rwandan Citizens. In line with this aim, two operational plans have been elaborated in the framework of the 11th EDF program, Accountable Democratic Governance, which was signed in December 2016. This will include support to the Access to Justice Coordination function in the Ministry of Justice and to the Office of Ombudsman.
“We believe that this is the right forum to discuss the two programs and to provide guidance for the next steps towards effective implementation. In this meeting we aim at engagement between Government institutions, Development Partners, Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders and coming up with useful inputs on what we can do better to further improve justice service delivery and ensure our impact as a sector is felt by the ordinary citizen in the village.” Busingye Added
