Investigators and Prosecutors Strengthen ADR Skills to Advance Access to Justice

From 29 March to 1 April 2026, the Ministry of Justice, in partnership with the European Union, organized a specialized Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) training for investigators and prosecutors. The training aimed to strengthen participants' knowledge and practical skills in ADR, promote restorative and community-based approaches to justice, and enhance their capacity to resolve disputes efficiently while fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and social cohesion.

The training is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen access to justice by equipping justice sector professionals with effective tools for resolving disputes amicably and reducing reliance on formal litigation. Through practical sessions and interactive discussions, participants deepened their understanding of mediation, negotiation, ethical standards, and other ADR mechanisms that support timely and sustainable conflict resolution.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director General in charge of Justice Sector Coordination emphasized the important role of ADR mechanisms in reducing court case backlogs and promoting more efficient justice delivery. He noted that strengthening the capacity of justice practitioners to apply ADR principles contributes to a more accessible, responsive, and people-centered justice system.

The training equipped investigators and prosecutors with practical skills in mediation, negotiation, and ethical ADR practice, further strengthening Rwanda's efforts to expand access to justice, promote social cohesion, and advance restorative approaches to conflict resolution.
