Strengthening Human Rights and Combating Human Trafficking

From 22 to 24 December 2025, the Ministry of Justice, in partnership with the ADR Operationalization Project, organized two key training sessions aimed at promoting human rights and preventing human trafficking.

The first training, held on 22 December, targeted trainers from justice institutions. Participants were equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to train Correctional Officers (abacungagereza) on respecting human rights and preventing human trafficking in their daily duties.

The second training, conducted on 23 and 24 December, focused directly on Correctional Officers from all 14 correctional facilities. These sessions emphasized fundamental human rights principles and the ethical responsibilities of officers when handling human trafficking cases.

Speaking during the training, Senior State Attorney Mr. Ndengeyinka William, who led the sessions, emphasized that “protecting human rights and combating human trafficking are inseparable missions. By equipping our trainers and Correctional Officers with the right knowledge and ethical guidance, we ensure that justice is served with dignity and integrity.”

Through these trainings, the Ministry of Justice reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening human rights protections and enhancing the capacity of Correctional Officers to combat human trafficking effectively.
