Justice demands more, it requires tangible actions and unwavering commitment

From Monday 29th to Tuesday 30th May 2023, at Nyagatare District took place the 9th Justice, Reconciliation, Law and Order Sector (JRLOS) Peer Review Retreat and Universal Periodic Review (UPR) retreat under the theme "Enhancing the Citizen's role in the Justice Sector service delivery to hit JRLOS targets.

Participants discussed key challenges faced by the Sector and the opportunities offered by the newly adopted Criminal Justice and ADR Policies, as well as the digitalization of justice services. They also focused on strengthening partnerships to achieve JRLOS’ targets and the role of stakeholders in the implementation of UPR recommendations while enhancing adherence to human rights.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Dr Emmanuel Ugirashebuja thanked each participant to the retreats for the direct or indirect role played in the development process of the Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Criminal Justice Policies that the Government approved last September, 8th 2023, and for several programs that respective organizators are initiating for the implementation of the two Policies.

He called for concrete action in transforming the Justice Sector.
