Fostering collaboration over confrontation: A call to Rwandan communities

In a groundbreaking initiative to resolve conflicts peacefully without resorting to litigation, the Ministry of Justice, in partnership with the European Union, launched an ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) awareness campaign on December 17, 2024, in Nyanza District, and December 18, 2024, in Musanze District.

At the heart of this campaign was the Caravan Approach—a lively and interactive method designed to engage communities directly. By incorporating drama performances as a storytelling tool, the campaign delivered key messages about ADR in a way that was both impactful and relatable.

These performances brought to life everyday conflicts and demonstrated how ADR offers a pathway to resolution that prioritizes dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect. They underscored the importance of citizens taking ownership of disputes and seeking peaceful, community-driven solutions, fostering a culture of collaboration over confrontation.

The campaign not only educated but also empowered, inspiring audiences to see ADR as a practical and accessible tool for resolving disputes. The vibrant performances created an atmosphere of learning and entertainment, leaving lasting impressions that encouraged a shift in mindset toward amicable conflict resolution.

Through this partnership, the Ministry of Justice and the European Union have taken significant steps toward embedding ADR principles into Rwandan society, promoting peace and strengthening community ties.

The success of this campaign in Nyanza and Musanze serves as a model for future efforts to expand ADR awareness nationwide, paving the way for a more harmonious Rwanda.
