Government Attorneys Equipped for More Effective Justice Delivery
ILPD - Nyanza, 19–23 May 2025 – Government Attorneys have been equipped with advanced legal skills following a week-long specialized training program organized by the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the European Union. The initiative brought together legal professionals from MINIJUST and various public institutions.
Throughout the training, participants explored practical approaches to handling disputes through adjudication, arbitration, negotiation, and mediation. By working through real-life legal scenarios, attorneys sharpened their ability to resolve conflicts both in court and through alternative dispute resolution methods, with a focus on fairness, timeliness, and efficiency.
The program also covered tort law, helping attorneys deepen their understanding of legal principles related to State liability and compensation. This enabled them to more effectively manage claims involving public losses and advocate for just outcomes on behalf of Government institutions.
In addition, participants strengthened their capacity to address misconduct in the public sector. The training provided hands-on experience in applying legal procedures to hold public officials accountable for actions that cause harm or financial loss to the State, equipping attorneys to pursue restitution and promote transparency.
At the close of the training, Permanent Secretary and Solicitor General Mr. Mbonera Théophile underscored the long-term value of the program, noting that it will support Government Attorneys in fulfilling their duties with greater professionalism and integrity.
“These trainings are more than technical sessions, they are part of our broader mission to ensure justice is delivered with professionalism, accountability, and in the public interest. We are grateful to the European Union for their continued partnership in building a stronger justice system,” he said.
