MAJ Trainers Complete ADR Capacity Building

From 23–27 June 2025 at ILPD Nyanza, the Ministry of Justice, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), organized a Training of Trainers for staff of the Maison d'Accès à la Justice (MAJ).

This initiative aimed to strengthen the capacity of MAJ staff to support Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service providers and promote access to justice through increased awareness and provision of ADR mechanisms, in order to help reduce the backlog of cases in the formal court system.

By equipping MAJ personnel with practical skills and deepening their understanding of ADR processes, the training supports national efforts to address one of the Justice Sector’s key challenges: court congestion. ADR offers a faster, more affordable, and accessible path for citizens to resolve disputes without resorting to lengthy legal proceedings.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chief Technical Advisor, Mr. Butera Michael highlighted the training’s relevance to national reform objectives.

“It was an honor to represent the Minister of Justice at this important closing ceremony. We believe that the knowledge and commitment demonstrated during this training will help advance the justice-related priorities of NST2—cutting the court case backlog by half, raising the quality of service delivery above 90%, and increasing citizens’ confidence in the security of their personal property beyond 90%.” He said
