Minister Busingye calls for acceptance of judgments reached by mediators
Justice Minister and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston has called upon Rwandans to welcome decisions by mediators and avoid seeking court litigation which is sometimes costly. Minister Busingye made the call this Tuesday 19th March 2019 while launching officially Justice Week in Ngororero district, Western Province.
Minister Busingye exemplified that some people end up using all their resources in seeking litigations in courts on matters that had been solved by mediators.
“You find someone has spent all they have in movements to courts, leaving the mediators who would solve matters amicably” Busingye said.
He said that the mediators solve over 70 per cent of conflicts among Rwandans.
Some residents of Ngororero district reported to the minister about their judgments which were not executed, which he replied by calling all concerned parties to cooperate to execute all judgments at their disposal. “Regardless of whether the one defeated in court will remain with nothing, judgments must be executed because it is the only way justice can be delivered” he said.
Justice week started on March 18 and will end on March 22, 2019.
During the week, the Justice Sector leaders will tour citizen’s forums in the whole country, universities and prisons, seeking to hear their challenges in justice.
