Minister Busingye Johnston visited Nyaruguru District Mediators

On Tuesday 18th December 2018, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston paid a visit to the Mediators of Kibeho, Rusenge and Munini Sectors of Nyaruguru District, Southern Province. The purpose of the visit was to officially kick start the trainings for Mediators organised by the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with USAID: Duteze Imbere Ubutabera activity. In addition, the visit aimed at discussing with Mediators on how to improve their services delivery process.

Minister Busingye appreciated the role that Mediators play in justice services delivery and in mediation of those who were having conflicts. “Mediators Committees in Rwanda are the primary givers of Justice Services, hence the value of their work is of great importance in legal matters. Who cannot value your role in mediating those who have conflicts and live together happily after your intervention”? Asked Minister Busingye.

He further requested Mediators to have integrity in their daily work and to have vigilance while making their decisions. “There is saying in Rwanda which goes like: He who settles brothers’ conflicts must be objective and do it without fear of favour. This means that objectivity and integrity should be taken into consideration and integrity is one of the characteristics of a good Mediator.  You have full influence over the decisions you take and you are aware that your decisions have impact on people and their properties. That is why vigilance in your daily work is a fundamental pillar leading to the final decisions you take”.  Minister Busingye highlighted.

The representative of USAID in Rwanda, Mrs. Gloria-Jean Garland said that USAID is happy to work with the Government of Rwanda with the aim of strengthening Rwandan Justice System. “We will continue to strengthen what the Government of Rwanda has committed to do with regards to good governance  and rule of law  which is the heart of vision 2020”. Said Mrs. Garland.
