Minister Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja leads Rwandan delegation to the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, is leading the Rwandan delegation attending the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, held from November 4 to 7, 2024, in Glasgow. He is accompanied by key officials, including Inspector General of Police Namuhoranye Felix, Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) Colonel Ruhunga Jeannot and Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the UK, Busingye Johnston.

The Assembly brings together approximately 1,000 participants from 179 countries, underscoring its importance in global law enforcement cooperation.

This annual event serves as INTERPOL's supreme governing body, gathering delegates appointed by the governments of its member countries. The Assembly plays a pivotal role in shaping international policing by making major decisions on policies, resource allocation, and operational strategies.

Key highlights of this session include:

  • The appointment of the next Secretary General, with Valdecy Urquiza of Brazil nominated to succeed Jürgen Stock.
  • Elections for nine new members of the Executive Committee as current mandates conclude.
  • Interactive panels focusing on critical topics such as biometric capabilities on the frontline, the role of AI in policing, sustaining multilateralism, and the future of law enforcement leadership.

Additionally, discussions will address global partnerships, governance, data processing, and general policing capabilities. The Assembly will also vote on the program of activities and the 2025 budget.
