Ministry of Justice Hosts Consultative Workshops on ADR and Criminal Justice Policies

The Ministry of Justice, with support from the European Union, has launched a series of one-day consultative workshops aimed at advancing Rwanda’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Criminal Justice (CJ). First adopted by the Cabinet on September 8, 2022, these policies underscore Rwanda’s commitment to a streamlined, harmonious justice system, enabling faster conflict resolution and improved access to justice for all citizens.

The workshops taking place at the ADR Center from Nov 6-8, 2024 gathered participants responsible for legal awareness and public relations from various state and non-state organizations, and Faith-Based Organization (FBOs) representatives.

The sessions provided an in-depth overview of the ADR policy, enabling participants to better understand their roles in implementing ADR mechanisms across Rwanda. These stakeholders are central to achieving a justice system that reduces court backlogs and offers accessible, community-driven resolutions to disputes.

Strengthening Collaborative Efforts for Lasting Impact

The workshop aims to enhance ownership and foster coordinated efforts among stakeholders, ensuring that all ADR and CJ activities are executed effectively through joint planning and regular feedback mechanisms. By equipping stakeholders with a thorough understanding of these policies and fostering a culture of joint accountability, the Ministry of Justice hopes to build a foundation for consistent, harmonious conflict resolution.
