The Government will no longer tolerate people who withhold information about the whereabouts of genocide victims – Minister Busingye Johnston
On Saturday October 12, 2019, at the Cyanika Genocide Memorial site in Nyamagabe District, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General led the ceremony of according decent burial to 104 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi bodies which were found at Cyanika Catholic Parish.
The bodies were found through information revealed by a 24-years old young woman who was working in the fields of parish and found bodies in terraces. She was courageous enough to disclose it while very many who tilled the same land for the past 25 years never said anything. This is a sign of hope as mindset of the young generation is growing towards good change.
Minister Busingye asked the residents to take an example of the young girl who was born after the Genocide against the Tutsi, and change their mindset because the government will no longer tolerate people who withhold information about the whereabouts of genocide victims.
“This day teaches us a lot: we come to know the level of mindset we have reached. The fact that we’re burying genocide victims after 25, it shows the presence of the crime of withholding information and complacence. The two are crimes punishable by the laws” Minister emphasized
