Validation meeting on the 3rd Universal Periodic Report of Rwanda
On Friday 25th September 2020, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Busingye Johnston chaired virtual validation meeting on the 3rd Universal Periodic Report of Rwanda.
The validation was attended by key stakeholders from the government’s institutions, UN agencies, members of the diplomatic community, members of Rwanda Civil Society, International Non-governmental organizations working in Rwanda and Private Sector.
In his remarks Minister Busingye recalled that it is the fourth time that such meeting be convened to discuss the UPR, content and process, since Rwanda’s second UPR review held on November 4th 2015 and subsequent adoption of the UPR national implementation roadmap in 2016.
He also reiterated that the Government of Rwanda, right from the beginning of this particular process of discussing UPR, decided together with all stakeholders that the process would be Government led, inclusive and open to all stakeholders including Civil Society, Private sector and Development Partners: “This deliberate choice was made to ensure that stakeholders are meaningfully involved in the process and that at the reporting time our report will include the views of all”. Minister said.
“Each of us as institutions, and individuals as well, has had the chance to provide his/her inputs and we hope they have been duly considered and hence the report gives a fair picture of what we have achieved together in the last five years”. He added.
During the meeting, the Ministry also shared a report of the progress of implemented recommendations that Rwanda accepted.
