We have the intellect to choose whether we go in conflicts or leave them – Min. Busingye Johnston
Tuesday November 03, 2019 in Bumbogo Sector, Gasabo District in City of Kigali, the week dedicated to activities of community mediators, Abunzi Week, which had begun on November 25, 2019, was officially closed. The closing event was presided over by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, where he also joined Bumbogo Sector residents in "citizens' forums", known as “Inteko z’Abaturage.”
Speaking at the Abunzi Week closing event, Minister Busingye emphasised that Abunzi level is one of meanings of good governance, characterised by conflict resolution, and reconciling people in disputes. “Communities must prioritise solving any arising conflicts through mediation, as part of the process of building a cohesive society," the Minister of Justice has said.
“In our daily lives, it is normal that we may have disputes with the people we live with, our neighbors and others, but we have the intellect to choose whether we go in conflicts or leave them. When a dispute exists for a long time without being resolved, the only outcome is poverty. People should always consider the worth of what they are fighting for; don’t stay in a conflict longer than necessary just because you think you were disrespected,” He added.
